May 19 and May 26 saw a lot of activity in the garden. This year we are trying the square foot gardening method. It is a gardening method that creates small but intensively planted gardens; perfect for an urban area where space is at a premium. We received a load of dirt so we’ve been digging up the beds; adding dirt and fertilizer. So far we’ve planted tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cucumbers, potatoes, lettuce, spinach, basil, beans, beets, onions. I’m probably forgetting something.
Ernie is working on a wild flower garden against the alley fence. And one young man in the neighborhood built a fence around the rain barrels.
Things are definitely starting to shape up. Drop by any Sunday at 4 PM to help.
We had quite a bit of help on the 19th from folks in the neighborhood as you can tell from the picture.
